SPECIFICATIONS

Flashcards (colour & black and white)

  • Number of flashcards: 6 full colour cards and 6 black and white cards
  • Dimensions (of each card): A4
  • How to use: 1) Download; 2) Print; 3) To increase durability: laminate or place inside an a4 clear plastic folder; 4) Have fun!!

Bingo Extra

  • Number of bingo cards: 24 + 1 sheet of bingo caller chips
  • Dimensions: Bingo card – A5; Bingo caller chips – 95 x 92mm
  • How to use: 1) Download; 2) Print; 3) Cut the cards to size; 4) To increase durability: laminate or place cards inside plastic folders; 5) Have fun!! 

If you laminate the bingo cards, remember to use whiteboard markers to cross off the squares. Once you’ve finished playing, you can use a wipe or cotton wool with some alcohol to remove the marker. Do not use permanent markers. You could also use coins or other small objects to cover the images, though please avoid choking hazards.

Tips & advice

We would like to offer you some simple tips on how to make the most of our bilingual resources for children:

 Remember: it’s not about teaching, it’s about having fun in different languages! So the most important factor to keep in mind is to simply enjoy reading our books or playing with our materials.

 Use our bilingual resources to play, talk and spend quality time with your little ones, increasing their exposure to the language to be acquired. The chances of successful acquisition will be greater the more exposure they get and the bigger the need and motivation that they experience.

 

 Think of our resources for children as a springboard. Develop the ideas presented in our books, games and posters in order to stimulate conversation and dialogue in the language to be acquired. Make up rhymes, sing songs, link the different images to your kids’ everyday lives, name the different colours in each picture…

 Remember it’s all about: repetition, repetition, repetition! Read and play again and again and again. Kids love repetition and routine, and what’s even better, it will help them with their language acquisition!

Games guide

REGULAR BINGO (use your bingo cards)

One person is the bingo “caller” and she/he will need the caller chips. The rest of the players need a bingo card and markers or counters/disks to play. The caller places the chips in a hat or bowl with so that images cannot be seen and then selects one. She/he holds it up and names the image on the chip. The rest of the players must then cross off that image on their bingo card, if it appears. Only one image can be crossed off each time. The caller replaces the chip to the hat or bowl and repeats the process. There are 2 different “prizes” that can be won. Prize 1 is won by being the first person to cross off a complete line of images and shouting: “line”. This “prize” is worth 5 points.  Prize 2 is won by crossing off all the images on your bingo card before anyone else does, and shouting “bingo!” This prize is worth 10 points.

 

HIDE AND SEEK (use your flashcards or memory cards)

Select some memory or flashcards and hide them around the room. Give your little one a fair amount of time to find them and make sure they name what they see when they find each card. Make sure you don’t hide the cards too well though!

 

MUSICAL CARDS (use your flashcards or memory cards)

Choose a few cards and place them around the room. Play some songs in the language you’re trying to acquire and stop the music after about 15 seconds. Ask your little ones to point to or stand next to the image you select, for example, “stand next to the cow” or “point to the Christmas tree”. When they do it, ask them to also name the image. Start the songs again and repeat with a different card.
